Job Overview

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center.  We have an opportunity for a Marketing & Communications Writer for our Headquarters location.  This is a hybrid role, working both remote from home based in the Tampa Bay area, and also working from the Headquarters location each week.


The Marketing and Communications Writer is responsible for developing creative and engaging written content that supports the marketing efforts of both Shriners Children's and Shriners International. The writer needs to possess ownership of a wide range of writing styles and tones, from factual to feature. Writing assignments are issued for a variety of publications, focused mainly on printed materials with occasional digital opportunities. This includes corporate magazines, fraternal communications, marketing collateral, one sheets, and others. In addition to creating compelling, original content, this individual must also adhere to appropriate grammar rules and corporate style guidelines while meeting deadlines. It is expected that the writer will consistently propose topics, story ideas, and content recommendations for all Marketing and Communication departmental writing needs. Assistance with proofreading and editing may also be requested.

  • Pitches, develops, and writes compelling, original copy for a wide variety of publications and purposes, as assigned.
  • Creates excellent content in a number of different styles: factual, feature, educational, informational, letters, speeches, scripts, and more.
  • Must be able to meet or exceed deadlines, adhere to modified AP style, and corporate style guides.
  • Uncovers newsworthy stories within the Shriners Children's and Shriners International systems, primarily for use with the corporate magazine publications or other avenues as deemed appropriate.
  • Adept at performing research for thorough, well-sourced content.
  • Skilled at conducting interviews and conversing with people both internal and external to the organizations to support the creation of factual and interesting stories.
  • Creates story lists for quarterly publications.
  • Owns the process for creation and distribution of system one sheets. This includes deciding on topics to feature, writing content, and gaining approvals for one sheet documents used throughout the hospital system and fraternity.
  • Proactive and contributing member of the team for all Marketing and Communication department content needs. This can entail generating content for recurring assignments or new projects, proofreading, and editing.
  • Maintains full responsibility for the completion of writing assignments including research, organization of material, writing, approvals, revisions, coordination with graphic designer, distribution, and follow up as needed.



  • 3 years' professional writing and editing experience required


  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications or Journalism required
